Online Safety
As a school, we encourage the use of technology as an important part of our pupils’ development, using the Internet and online resources safely to explore and learn. Consequently, Online Safety is taught to the children throughout the school as part of the National Curriculum for Computing and as stand alone Online Safety lessons that take place every half term.
Keeping Children Safe Online – updated guidance
The DfE has updated guidance for parents and carers about keeping children safe online. New information on apps has been added.
Please see below for additional information, resources and websites designed to keep you informed and support our parents with keeping their children safe online.
Online Safety Curriculum
At South Camberley we have designed our Online Safety curriculum around Project Evolve resources. These resources have been developed by the Project Evolve Team to meet the requirements from the UKCIS/DSIT digital competencies framework “Education for a Connected World”. This framework is a seminal attempt to define what educators should focus on with children and young people at each stage of their school journey. It covers eight strands of their online lives from Early Years right through to 18+.
The 8 strands taught throughout our online safety curriculum are:
- Self-Image and Identity
- Online Relationships
- Online Reputation
- Online Bullying
- Managing Information Online
- Health, Wellbeing and Lifestyle
- Privacy and Security
- Copyright and Ownership
Lessons are taught once every half-term. Here is a link to our Online Safety Map.
Our explicit Online Safety lessons are reinforced by our progressive Computing Curriculum. When the children learn new computing skills they discuss how these new skills impact their Online Safety. This is a constant discussion that is drip feeding and reinforcing our children's understanding.
Online Safety Day 2025
As in previous years, we plan to participate in Online Safety Day 2025, as part of our continued commitment to keeping our children safe online. The aim of these sessions is to provide practical advice and tips to help parents manage their children's time online and make it as safe and enjoyable as possible. The session will touch on the following areas:
- How your child learns about Online Safety in school
- Safe settings, controls and management
- Where to go to find out about apps and games your children use/play
- Managing Screen Time
- Help and Reporting
Resources used during the session will be shared, so attendees can access them at home when needed.
Save the date - Tuesday, 11 February 2025.
